Hard at work
Habitat for Humanity is a non-denominational Christian charity that works around the world with home-partners and volunteers from all backgrounds, races and religions to build homes.
Churches are major supporters of Habitat for Humanity and can get involved by praying for our work, sending teams on short-term missions to help build and by giving donations.
Habitat for Humanity provides a means to build community and fellowship within your church and gives you the opportunity to show God’s love in action.
Pray for our work
Prayer is an important part of the life of Habitat for Humanity and we ask you to pray for our work around the world and for the volunteers and homeowners whose lives are transformed.
Volunteer
Habitat for Humanity provides practical opportunities to participate in world mission for one or two weeks, or an opportunity to build in the UK for a day. This can provide a great mission focus for a local church or for a group of local churches working together. It’s a hands-on opportunity to work with God’s people in need.
Donate:
Habitat for Humanity needs your financial support for its mission. Why not have a gift day or special event in order to raise funds? Your church could decide to fundraise to build a house. The end result is a family moving from poverty housing into a simple, decent home to call their own.
Friends of Habitat for Humanity:
If you’d like to make a regular commitment to Habitat for Humanity, why not consider forming a Friends group? By holding regular fundraising events, volunteering and promoting the Habitat for Humanity solution to poverty housing, you’ll really make a difference to the lives of people in need
“Going on Global Village was extremely rewarding and humbling. It taught me a great deal about my own culture and challenged me to look at what was important in my life.”
Alison Bunch, Global Village volunteer.
“Habitat for Humanity is a living expression of Christian concern, a simple and utterly practical way of putting the resources of communities to work. Committed teams of volunteers from churches, working alongside other volunteers from companies, colleges, civic and neighbourhood groups, to help families in poor housing conditions to build their own homes – this is a wonderful testimony to faith in action. It shows how faith in God can help people recover faith in their own freedom to make a difference and to build a more human and humane world. ”
The Most Rev. Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury
“Habitat for Humanity mobilises churches of all kinds, using the labour of enthusiastic volunteers and the equity of beneficiaries in a uniquely successful formula. It is a formula that continues to be on the cutting edge of housing solutions and community regeneration both in the UK and overseas. Habitat for Humanity offers churches a practical way to alleviate poverty housing overseas.”
The Rev. Nicky Gumbel, Alpha Leader
“I wish to make an earnest call to everyone, Christians and followers of other religions, to work together to build a world without violence, a world that loves life, and grows in justice and solidarity. God bless all who are building this home during World Youth Day 2002 for Habitat for Humanity.”
Pope John Paul II
